It gives them an idea of what to expect and you also tell them the basics of how to write. This may help them to be prepared before they go to class and work on their own essay. It will also provide a basic outline of what the grade book will look like and whether it is going to be filled with problems or not.Third, it will help your students to have a copy of your MLA so that they can refer to it. Some people who do not use sample essays may create a better study guide if they have one. You can get a copy of it from your professor or a friend who uses it.Fourth, if you do not write a sample, you may end up being too critical about what you do not like in a student's essay. Students who do not use sample essays often tend to be judgmental. If you do not write one, you will be more likely to criticize their essays.
